PD Dr. Valentin Amrhein, director of the Research Station

Studies of Biology in Basel, Switzerland. Diploma thesis in 1999 supervised by Prof. Dr. Heinz Durrer and Prof. Dr. Stephen C. Stearns. Initiated the nightingale project in 1997, and is director of the Research Station since 1999. Ph.D. exam in February 2004. In 2005, spent a postdoctoral research year at the University of Oslo, Norway. Since 2006, Valentin is associated with the Institute of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Basel as a group leader, and received his Habilitation in 2009. He teaches Ornithology, Behavioural Ecology and Statistics. Valentin also works as a science journalist, and since 2012, he is part-time employed as the head of public relations at the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Tobias Roth

Studies of Biology in Basel (Switzerland) and Bergen (Norway). Diploma thesis 2004 at the Swiss Ornithological Institute, on the phenology of migrating birds in Mauritania, Western Africa, supervised by Prof. Dr. Bruno Bruderer and Dr. Felix Liechti. From 2005 to 2007, Tobias studied applied statistics at the ETH Zürich. He is part-time employed as a research assistant at Hintermann & Weber AG. Ph.D. exam in March 2012. Tobias studies the ecology of butterflies, birds and plants, and develops analytical methods for biodiversity monitoring programs.
Dr. Jean-Yves Georges

Research scientist at the Institut Pluridisciplinaire Hubert Curien (CNRS / University of Strasbourg). Jean-Yves is in charge of the European swamp turtles in the outdoor enclosures of the Research Station Petite Camargue Alsacienne and is responsible for the scientific monitoring of the re-introduction program in Alsace.
M.Sc. Barbara Berli

Studies of Biology and Sustainable Development in Basel (Switzerland), master thesis on swimming performance and underlying physiology in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brown trout (Salmo trutta), supervised by Prof. Dr. Keith Tierney and Prof. Dr. Patricia Holm. Barbara investigates development, genetics and behaviour of salmon (Salmo salar) in the Petite Camargue Alsacienne and at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, University of Basel.
Dr. Fränzi Korner-Nievergelt & Dr. Pius Korner

Studies of Biology at the Universities of Basel (Pius) and Zürich (Fränzi). Studies of applied statistics 2001 - 2003 at the ETH Zürich (Fränzi & Pius) and 2007 - 2008 at the University of Bern (Fränzi). Pius and Fränzi work part-time at the Swiss Ornithological Institute and offer biostatistical analysis and consulting. They help at the Research Station on a regular basis.
